Combing
The Wheaten is popular because of its silky coat, but many owners who get a Wheaten find that grooming the coat is so time-consuming that they prefer to keep their dog’s hair cut short (in a low-maintenance style).
You need to comb the coat at least twice with a metal comb to make sure the brush reaches all the way down to the skin. Often, owners make the mistake of just combing the surface of the coat.
Here's a video that includes a brief discussion of combs and the combing technique itself.
Swimming
Bathing is another important part of caring for a Wheatna’s coat. I’ve had good experiences with the PSH brand (https://www.kosmetikapsh.cz/). I definitely recommend using both shampoo and conditioner. Bathe your dog as needed, but in my experience, that works out to about once a month. That said, I wash their paws and underbelly after every walk.
Your breeder is once again the best person to help you with coat care. We all have our own little tricks. 🙂
